Chilton's Auto Repair Manual 1979
Featuring
detailed, step-by-step instructions and myriad illustrations, charts, and graphical
representations, the Chilton's Auto Repair Manual is
a comprehensive tome which has served well generations of backyard and
professional automobile mechanics. Although all-inclusive and far-reaching in
its scope, the various materials are presented in a such a manner that even the
novice will find much, if not most, that was once considered too complex, or
perceived as incomprehensible, well within his or her sphere of understanding and
capability.
The Chilton's Auto Repair
Manual 1979 encompasses those American automobiles manufactured between
the years of 1972 through 1979—a total of 118 Domestic Models. Virtually all
assemblies and sub-assemblies are addressed in great detail and are accompanied
by those illustrations deemed appropriate and essential for a clearer
understanding of the individual components and procedures under discussion.

Although 27 years have passed since that date in
1978 when I purchased this volume new, it remains an outstanding reference volume
for both the collector and restorer of vintage American automobiles. The
information contained within its pages is no longer readily available, while
the book itself, long out-of-print, is becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
Relegated to history and nostalgia is the era of the high performance
"muscle car"—the days when gas was cheap, emission controls unknown, and
onboard computers consigned to science fiction—and the boys and girls who
built and loved them. Gone is the time when the average teenager smelled more of
motor oil than acne medication and when horsepower was of far greater import than
system RAM and hard drive capacity. Gone, alas, are the days of my youth.
Condition:
Although never used and, lacking, therefore, the
hallmark of the industrious mechanic—those ubiquitous greasy fingerprints,
this volume has, nevertheless, accompanied me from place to place for the past
27 years. As a result of the aforenoted, and in keeping with the passage of time,
the hardcover, though yet genuinely presentable, is lightly scuffed in spots while,
due to a leaky garage roof some years back, several pages are watermarked in
the upper corner. All pages, text, and illustrations remain perfectly legible.
Having thoroughly examined this long out-of-print reference manual, I can,
without reservation, state that the overall condition is really quite good.

- The photographic representations of "Chilton's Auto Repair Manual 1979," which
are displayed in various locations throughout this site,
were effected by means of a FujiFilm FinePix 2800 Zoom digital camera with a
resolution setting of 640 x 480 pixels. Although we craved and, therefore,
experimented with higher resolutions, the resulting page load times proved
insufferable to all but the most resolute of our visitors.
